Six new National Centres of Competence in Research to boost cutting-edge research in Switzerland
In 2026, the Confederation has launched six new National Centres of Competence (NCCR) in Research covering strategically important areas such as medicine, climate and physics. The federal government will provide CHF 98 million in funding for the NCCR over the next four years; the funding will be shared with universities and research institutions.
The aim is to encourage excellence in research, build new research facilities and reinforce Switzerland’s international position.
