European Cooperation in Science and Technology – COST
COST was founded in Brussels in 1971 and has since supported coordinated cooperation in research and development in Europe. Switzerland is a founding member.
COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a Europe-wide intergovernmental framework for the coordination of nationally funded research activities. With over 30 member states, it encourages networking activities and enables research institutes from non-EU member states to participate in specific COST Actions.
Thanks to its bottom-up approach, research topics can be freely chosen, which leads to a rich diversity of projects across a wide range of scientific disciplines.
COST is funded through Horizon Europe. The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) manages the scientific, administrative and other financial aspects of COST in Switzerland.
