European Molecular Biology Conference: Opportunities for early career researchers

The European Molecular Biology Conference (EMBC) funds the General Programme of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO). Switzerland is a founding member of the EMBO and the EMBC, both of which pursue the goal of fostering excellence in molecular biology research in Europe.

With the funding provided by the EMBC, the EMBO runs a general programme of short and long-term fellowships. It also organises training courses, workshops and scientific congresses in the member states. Founded in 1969, the EMBC now has 31 member states and an annual budget of approximately EUR 32 million.

Swiss participation

Swiss research institutions benefit greatly from the EMBO fellowship programme because many fellowship recipients carry out their research in Switzerland. The contribution of these highly qualified professionals is the greatest benefit that Switzerland derives from its EMBC membership. For researchers, an EMBO fellowship is very important because the selection process is highly competitive, making it beneficial to their careers beyond the purely financial aspect.

SERI represents Switzerland in the EMBC and helps guide the direction of the organisation.
