EU/EFTA citizens wishing to carry out a regulated professional activity in Switzerland for a maximum of 90 working days per calendar year must submit a declaration form to SERI before providing the service. If the professional activity has a potential impact on public health or safety, vocational and professional qualifications will be carefully checked by the competent authority. Processing times for service providers are shorter than the recognition procedure for people moving to Switzerland. An online portal has been set up to simplify the centralised procedure.
All service providers from EU/EFTA member states are also subject to a further obligation to register with the State Secretariat for Migration SEM (notification procedure for short-term employment). The online notification is an essential requirement for entering Switzerland and it must take place before commencing work.
Please note that due to the current public health situation the provision of some services may not be permitted or may be restricted at present until further notice. However, it is still possible to submit a declaration form to SERI. Once the applicant’s professional qualifications have been checked, the case will be forwarded to the authority responsible for the professional activity. The cantons decide on whether the applicant may carry out the professional activity and enter Switzerland.
