European Space Agency (ESA) - Continuously Open Research Announcements (CORA)
ESA research announcements are the official access routes for institutional users to use research facilities managed by ESA's Directorate of Human and Robotic Exploration. The Science Department of ESA’s Human Spaceflight and Exploration Directorate recently undertook an extensive exercise to create a new strategy, focusing on a set of newly-defined goals to positively shape its research programme and maximise research.

Call for mobility grants with South Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka)  and Iran 2019
This mobility grant is designed for young scientists who seek the possibility to gain experience in international research and development projects. Recipients of this mobility grant will be enabled to build up new partnerships through personal contacts early on in their career. Such early international exchange should inspire researchers to seek international collaborations also later in their scientific career.

Japanese – Swiss Young Researchers’ Exchange Programme 2019 Call for Applications
The Leading House ETH Zurich and the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) jointly fund the exchange of young scientists between Japan and Switzerland. The instrument funds 3 to 6 months research stays in the partner country. Swiss researchers can apply to ETH Zurich for a stay in Japan and Japanese researchers to JSPS for a stay in Switzerland.

  • Eligibility: PhD Students, young postdocs and in exceptional cases also Master students from Swiss universities, Universities of Applied Sciences and research institutes are invited to apply. The call is open to all scientific disciplines including social sciences and humanities.
  • Funding: Grants will cover travel costs and a monthly living allowance for a research stay at a Japanese university or research laboratory.

Opportunity Grants for ASEAN, China, Japan, South Korea
Opportunity grants will support activities of Swiss researchers from universities, universities of applied sciences or public research institutes linked to specific events or incidents in China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), Japan, South Korea and member states of ASEAN. Examples of such events are on the one hand large public happenings, such as the Olympic Games, international or national Expos etc., or on the other hand major environmental or economic developments in the region. The goal of the opportunity grants is to provide non-bureaucratic support to bottom-up initiatives. These initiatives aim at increasing the visibility of Swiss science and technology abroad or applying its results to a concrete development or challenge. Projects must go beyond research cooperation or academic conferences. Please check with the Leading House whether your initiative is suitable.

Sino-Swiss Science and Technology Cooperation
In the context of the Sino-Swiss Science and Technology Cooperation (SSSTC 2016), the SNSF and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) have issued a call for Joint Research Projects (JRPs).
Joint Research Projects (JRPs) allow researchers in Switzerland to collaborate with researchers in China. The projects will have a duration of between three and four years, with funding on the Swiss side amounting to a maximum of CHF 350,000 per project. The costs covered by the grants are comparable to those covered in national SNSF projects (equipment, research funds, salaries).

Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) – Joint call with South Korea
(deadline: 14 March 2019)
In the context of the bilateral programmes initiated by the federal government, the SNSF and the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Korea are issuing a call for research projects.
The SNSF has launched a second call for Joint Research Projects (JRPs) together with its South Korean partner organisation, the NRF. JRPs enable researchers in Switzerland to collaborate with a South Korean partner. The SNSF will cover the costs incurred in Switzerland, and the NRF the costs in South Korea. The two organisations plan to fund up to 12 projects under the current call; the project duration has been extended to 4 years.

Programme Germaine de Staël for collaboration projects with France
(deadline: 7 June 2019)
The "Germaine de Staël" programme promotes collaboration between French and Swiss researchers and research teams by providing funding towards travel and accommodation expenses incurred by their team members as part of attending meetings or conferences. Funding of around CHF 4,500 per project per year is provided to Swiss participants.

Innovation starting grants with Middle East and North Africa
(deadline: 25th March 2019)
The Leading House MENA launches a call for projects for “Innovation starting grants”, which aims at fostering collaborations between Swiss researchers, universities in the MENA region and non-academic partners. It is open to all fields and to innovation projects in a broad sense, both technological and social.

Call for Opportunity Grants with China, Japan, South Korea and the ASEAN Region

The Leading House ETH Zurich opens a call for proposals for opportunity grants with China, Japan, South Korea and the ASEAN countries. Applications are accepted on a rolling base until 2020.
