These are based on partnerships between EU member states and countries that hold associated state status with the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme by virtue of Article 185 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU).

At present, Switzerland takes part in three initiatives under Article 185:

  • Innosuisse represents Switzerland in ‘Active and Assisted Living’ and ‘Eurostars-2’.
  • The Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) represents Switzerland in the ‘European Metrology Research Programme (EMPIR)’.
  • The swiss tropical and public health insitute (Swiss TPH) represents Switzerland as ‘Aspirant Member’ in the ‘European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership 2 (EDCTP2)’. The topic is also followed by SERI at the level of the Horizon 2020 ‘Health’ programme committee.
