Under the terms of a mandate received from the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), two private organisations, i.e. Euresearch in Bern and SwissCore in Brussels, lend support to Swiss education and research institutions and stakeholders wishing to take part in European research cooperation endeavours.
Euresearch is a federally mandated and funded association. It is responsible for providing information and advice to all interested researchers from the private sector and public institutions in Switzerland regarding participation in EU research framework programmes and COST actions.
Euresearch is comprised of a head office in Bern which includes the National Contact Points (NCPs) of the EU research framework programmes and regional counselling offices housed at ten university campuses. In addition, Euresearch also works with the SwissCore liason office in Brussels.
National contact points (NCPs)
Researchers in Switzerland who are interested in research funding possibilities (e.g. in relation to a thematic priority of a current EU research framework programme) or already preparing a specific project may consult a Euresearch NCP. These specialists are on hand to provide detailed information on individual aspects of programmes. They can also help researchers to find suitable partners, guide them with the submission procedure and assist them in the preparation of project proposals. With each call for project proposals, NCPs organise special information sessions.
All information regarding NCPs, their services and contact details can be found on the Euresearch website.
Euresearch's ten regional offices can be found at the Swiss university campuses of Basel, Bern, Fribourg, Geneva, Lausanne, Lugano, Lucerne, Neuchâtel, St. Gallen and Zurich. They provide general information about all EU research programmes and offer regional access for companies, higher education institutions, research institutes and individual researchers. They also actively inform researchers in their region, explain how to take part in EU programmes and offer practical support. Some regional offices also have regional Contact Points, not to be confused with NCPs, that are specifically intended to assist universities of applied sciences (UAS) and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
All information regarding Euresearch's regional offices, their services and contact details can be found on the Euresearch website.
SwissCore: liaison office in Brussels
The Contact Office for European Research, Innovation and Education (SwissCore) is Switzerland's Brussels-based liaison office for the cooperation in education, research and innovation. It is funded by the SERI, the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and Innosuisse. SwissCore is a member of the Informal Group of RTD Liaison Offices (IGLO).
SwissCore links education and research institutions and stakeholders in Switzerland and elsewhere in Europe. It also strives to achieve favourable conditions for Swiss participation in corresponding EU programmes. SwissCore monitors the latest local developments, provides interested parties with contacts and offers researchers local working space (meeting rooms and offices).
The Swiss partners of SwissCore are Euresearch for research and innovation and Movetia for education.
