Abstract
Relevant public transport projects are compiled to record the effects of public transport expansions on the road. These are presented in corresponding fact sheets. The data available from relevant statistics or surveys on structural, spatial and transport effects are compiled for this purpose. Corresponding indicators are defined for these effects. Two of these public transport projects are analysed in depth for their traffic effects. For this purpose, they are analysed with a model according to structural growth, route choice and modal and destination choice. The modelling makes efficient use of existing models. In addition, this approach also provides insights that can be used to generate methodological information for the possible expansion of existing instruments for the evaluation of infrastructure projects, such as TRIPOD or, if applicable, EBeN.

Project aims
The aim of the research work is to illustrate and differentiate the demand effects of public transport projects. The knowledge gained should make it possible to draw conclusions about the modal shift effect of public transport projects and in particular about any interactions with road transport. In particular, the question of why expected reductions in road traffic have not materialised will be investigated. Based on selected public transport expansion projects, the effects on the modal split as a whole, the effects on motorised traffic in the relevant project perimeter as well as spatial effects and interrelationships will be examined. Data that includes both modes of transport (public transport, motorised private transport) will be deliberately considered. In addition, findings on the methodology for recording such effects are also expected.
