Programme de Développement d'Expériences Scientifiques (PRODEX)

The Swiss Space Science community develops and provides top-notch science instruments or sub-systems for Space missions. The implementation of such development projects is done within the framework of the Programme de Développement d'Expériences Scientifiques (PRODEX) of the European Space Agency (ESA).

Evaluated and approved project proposals are implemented under the lead of a scientist based at one of Switzerland’s research institute, e.g. universities, ETH-domain, universities of applied sciences or others. Through PRODEX the projects have access to the combined competence and knowledge of the European Space Agency (ESA), be it in technical, industrial, contractual, legal or managerial aspects.

The close cooperation between universities and the Swiss industry foster a common understanding of the reciprocal environments and also support a mutually beneficial transfer of knowledge and competences - education, innovation, competitiveness and “Swiss Made” at its best.

PRODEX

The Programme de Développement d'Expériences Scientifiques offers institutions and industry support in preparing space based scientific experiments. In addition to the implementation of such development projects, the programme provides access to the experience and expertise of the European Space Agency.

According to the national guidelines for PRODEX (see below) researchers at Swiss research institutions can submit development proposals or project applications to SERI, Space Division. Applications are assessed at national level and, if approved, are funded and implemented via ESA and its PRODEX Office.

Swiss higher education institutions and national industry cooperate closely on PRODEX projects. The aim is to encourage a mutual exchange of knowledge and technology that will consolidate Switzerland’s position as a knowledge and production base.

Exchange rate

PRODEX projects are carried out according to ESA guidelines and specifications. Budgets and accounts have to be prepared in euros.
The apllicable exchange rate to be used in PRODEX-requests currently is at 1.15 CHF/EUR.
(You are invited to check the current information for an updated value before you submit your proposal to SERI.)
