Scholarships for European studies promote talents

The evaluation analyses the impact of the scholarships for young talents in the fields of economics, law, history, political and social sciences, international relations and diplomacy as well as interdisciplinary European studies. To this end, expert interviews were conducted, alumni from the 1996-2021 cohort were surveyed and a comparison of these scholarships in Germany, Austria and Luxembourg was drawn.

Open Access publications, 2008-2020

Up to now, researchers have reported the results of their work mainly in scientific journals. In recent years, a movement has developed in the form of Open Access, which grants researchers free access to scientific publications on the internet. A new bibliometric analysis by SERI examines how Switzerland compares internationally in terms of OA publications.

Occupational field development against the background of current developments and structural change

The report analyses the impact of various current developments, such as digitalisation, COVID-19 and climate change, on the labour market and training and continuing education in various occupational fields. A literature study and interviews with experts in specific occupational fields were carried out to assess the challenges of occupational (field) development against this background.

Roadmap for Research Infrastructures 2023

Research infrastructures are an essential means of generating new knowledge or opening up new areas of research. The 2023 Swiss Roadmap for Research Infrastructures provides an overview of planned construction and existing research infrastructures. It also includes information on Swiss participation in international research organisations and European research infrastructure networks.

Evaluation of the CSEM

The Confederation is supporting the Centre Suisse d'électronique et de microtechnique (CSEM) as a technology competence centre of national importance with just under CHF 130 million for the years 2021-2024. SERI commissioned an external evaluation of the role and function of the CSEM. The aim of the evaluation was to assess the conception and impact of the CSEM's activities and, where necessary, to make suggestions for optimisation.

Mastering multiple complexities - a rising challenge for Swiss innovation models

Despite its top positions in all innovation rankings, Switzerland has seen a decline in innovation activity over the past twenty years. Based on a hearing with some 40 experts, this report analyses the reasons for this decline on the basis of new challenges for innovation such as complexity, competition and regulation, the increasing importance of consumers as well as digitalization and sustainability.
